SUMMARY

Assist the driver in providing safe and orderly transportation for students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Lift and carry students with disabilities on and off the bus according to their individual needs.

• Supervise students as they board and leave the bus and cross the street.

• Learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.

• Manage student behavior and report student discipline problems to appropriate administrator.

• Communicate with teachers and parents on an as needed basis.

• Become familiar with assigned route to and from school campus. Ability to assist driver with directions.

• Maintain an updated route schedule.

• Supervise use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seats by students.

• Ability to install and uninstall a variety of child safety restraint systems.

• Follow emergency procedures and help driver administer first aid, if necessary.

• Operate equipment according to established safety procedures.

• Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, assisting students, etc.

• Become familiar with and follow procedures established by transportation and special education offices.

• Properly complete and submit required reports.

• Successfully complete all required training courses.

• Attend all required meetings.

• Help driver keep bus clean.

• Work irregular hours as needed.

• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Graduate or GED





SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

Ability to manage student behavior, Ability to administer basic first aid, in accordance with qualifications, friendly but firm in dealing with students, parents, school administrators and the public, emotionally stable, dependable and punctual, posses good communication skills, including the ability to read and write English, posses ability to deal with emergency situations, ability to evacuate a bus under emergency conditions and demonstrate the ability to do so without physical harm by quickly entering and exiting the rear emergency door.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
