Description | Primary Purpose:
To work cooperatively with the coaches and serve as a consultant to them on improving the performance of their athletes in the athletic arena while aiding in the prevention of injuries. Once training program has been decided cooperatively, Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for implementation and organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Teacher Certification Preferred
- Speed & Agility training experience
- Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist or similar applicable certification preferred
- Prior Speed & Agility coach experience at high school or collegiate level
- CPR/AED/First Aid
- CDL or will attain in the next year
- Familiarity with UIL rules and regulations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management
To promote improvement and provide effective instruction, the Sport Performance Coach:
- Designs and supervises speed and agility training and conditioning programs for all boys’ and girls’ sports in Temple ISD for pre-season, in-season, and off-season. This includes setting up and taking down of all strength, agility, speed and conditioning equipment used daily.
- Works in cooperation with the middle school coaches to design and implement an effective speed and agility fundamental training model.
- Works in cooperation with the middle school coaches to design and implement an effective strength and conditioning fundamental training model.
- Works in cooperation with athletic trainers in minimizing and rehabilitating injuries as well as the strengthening of injured athletes.
- Is responsible for the daily operation of the strength and conditioning facility as well as the coordination and scheduling of the facility before, after the school day, and throughout the year.
- Prepares well-organized, written speed & agility plans which utilize the coaching staff and team to its maximum potential.
- Plans, organizes, and directs summer speed & agility camps for both high school and middle school athletes.
- Communicates expected student behavior related to athletics and ensures student compliance.
Organization Climate
To foster a positive school or organization morale, the Sport Performance Coach:
- Maintains a clean, safe, and efficient workout areas.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with the TISD coaching staff.
Organization Improvement
To improve each school and sports program, the Sport Performance Coach:
- Establishes and monitors all rules and regulations that are to be followed by all users of TISD strength and conditioning facilities.
- Provides supervision and ensures the safety and security of athletes by closely monitoring conduct of athletes while using TISD strength and conditioning facilities.
Communication and Community Relations
To develop and promote positive communication and relations, the Sport Performance Coach:
- Keeps the Athletic Director informed of events within the speed and agility programs.
- Promotes a positive environment and image for the athletic program through effective interpersonal relationships with administration, faculty, parents, teachers, and community leaders.
- Demonstrates the use of appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parental support.
Personnel Relations/Management
To effectively manage student-athlete and program personnel, the Sport Performance Coach will:
- Be responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting annual coaches training regarding speed & agility program and strength & conditioning so that all participants may work cooperatively and effectively to implement the TISD speed and agility program.
- Be responsible for a coordinated strength and conditioning program in cooperation with the director of athletics, athletics coaches, and sports medicine staff.
- Be responsible for monitoring effective working relationships with the middle school coaches in the overall speed, agility, strength, and conditioning.
Organization Management
To effectively manage functions related to administration, facilities, and fiscal responsibilities, the Sport Performance Coach
- Creates, distributes, and maintains detailed, accurate and updated records for each high school athlete to track progress, develop work out schedules and assess effectiveness of programs.
- Provides a longitudinal report to each coach following the administration of performance assessments.
- Maintains all strength and conditioning facilities in the district (high school and middle schools), including but not limited to making recommendations for repairing or replacing equipment as needed.
- Maintains a current inventory of all strength and conditioning equipment within the district and submit to the director of athletics at the end of each school year.
- Works within proper framework of the athletic budget to recommend the purchase of equipment and supplies as deemed necessary and appropriate.
- Completes all tasks and assignments promptly and accurately, as assigned by the director of athletics.
Professional Growth and Development
Professional development for the Sport Performance Coach will include, but is not limited to the following:
- Teaching current techniques and strategies to coaches through demonstrations, videos, and various instructional platforms.
- Participating in national and state level organizations to stay abreast of latest research and best practices.
- Attending professional development opportunities and meetings related to designated subject areas.
- Reading, synthesizing, and disseminating research and information related to best practices from books, journals, list serves, Websites, and other media formats.
Qualities of Effective Athletic Performance Coach
The Sport Performance Coach exhibits the following qualities:
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the coach.
- Complies with District policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
- Demonstrates knowledge in strength training and continuous professional growth by keeping informed of modern trends, techniques, and strategies.
- Attends clinics and or conventions to maintain speed & agility certifications.
- Attends clinics and or conventions to maintain strength and conditioning license (NSCA/CSCS Certification).
- Follows professional, ethical, and legal parameters regarding use of drugs and therapeutic agents for treatment and rehabilitation of injured athletes.
- Acts as a positive role model for athletes and peers by dressing professionally for workouts, contests and personally modeling what is expected of the athletes and recognizing the importance his/her actions have on the developing young athlete.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm and dedication to the athletic department and student athletes.
- Always maintains expected weight room and office decorum.
- Demonstrates self-control and poise by maintaining self-control in all areas related to strength and conditioning coach responsibilities.
- Corrects unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform Athletic Director of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise student-athletes/teams in training sessions, open weight-room session. Assist coaches in practice sessions.
Equipment:
Computer, printer, calculator, telephone, copier, fax machine, scanner, electronic devices, all athletic facility equipment, and other equipment applicable to the position.

- Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces.
