SUMMARY

To provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in sport assigned. Contribute to education program as a whole and to the growth of all students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

    • Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
    • Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Board of Trustees policies, and administrative regulations.
    • Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
    • Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
    • Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of the school’s curriculum.
    • Presents for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school and district.
    • Develops, in accordance with district and building guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate discipline techniques which are consistently applied.
    • Communicates and interacts with students, parent, staff, and the community in a positive manner.
    • Participates in the district’s professional development program.
    • Maintains attendance and grade records as required by school.
    • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
    • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.
    • Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
    • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students, athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
    • Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Keep informed and ensure compliance of all UIL rules.
    • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
    • Work with athletic director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangement.
    • Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips.
    • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
    • Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
    • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
    • Perform other tasks as may be assigned by Supervisor/Superintendent.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


Supervise student athletic assistants.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


Bachelor’s degree and Texas Teaching Certificate.


LANGUAGE SKILLS


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, teaching and coaching procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and coaching manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, administration, staff, parents, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS


Valid Texas Teaching Certificate and valid CDL endorsement.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to travel to multiple campuses, as assigned and is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employee may also be required to occasionally travel out-of-district for school functions and/or activities.
