Description

SUMMARY

 

Responsible for the safety of students crossing at the location he/she is assigned. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

 

  • Keep students on the curb until CG is in the middle of the roadway and all cars are stopped; then signal student to cross.
  • Remain in position until the last child has safely stepped onto the curb on the other side.
  • Always use a hand sign when stopping traffic and while students are crossing the street.
  • Try to make eye tot eye contact with motorist while making the crossing safe for students.
  • Make sure students walk their bicycles and skateboards across the street in a safe manner.
  • Always watch and be prepared for unique problems at crossings.
  • Never stop traffic suddenly; wait for a reasonable break in traffic flow. Keep movements smooth, slow and deliberate to avoid confusing motorists or students.
  • Never leave assigned duty area before assigned quitting time.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Superintendent.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

High School Graduate or GED

 

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

 

Ability to manage student behavior, friendly but firm in dealing with students, parents, and the public, emotionally stable, dependable and punctual, posses good communication skills, including the ability to read and write English, posses ability to deal with emergency situations.
