Spring semester only.

 

SUMMARY:                  

To provide students identified as dyslexic with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential.                       

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Implements curriculum which provides for effective teaching strategies for students with dyslexia.
  • Serves as the campus contact person for teachers, administrators, and parents regarding testing and placement of students in the dyslexia program.
  • Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
  • Keeps current in language therapy knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge for the continual improvement of the district language therapy program.
  • Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and the community in a positive manner.
  • Participates in the district’s professional development program.
  • Acts as a liaison between the dyslexia program and other campus programs and activities.
  • Presents for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school and district.
  • Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Successful completion of Academic Language Therapist Training
  • Experience in assessment and providing dyslexia therapy

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as state and local rules and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively respond to questions from administrators, education board, faculty, parents, students and the community. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. 

 

REASONING ABILITIES

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • ALTA (Academic Language Therapist Association) Certification (by examination) or willing to work toward certification and obtain within 2 years of employment plus Masters degree.
