Description

SUMMARY

Provide door to door transportation for enrolled Temple ISD/Edwards Academy pregnant, parenting students, and their children to and from school, doctors’ appointments, and social services appointments, as well as assist as a caregiver in E2C2 classrooms on a daily basis as needed, and help with any other activities as assigned by the E2C2 Director.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Transport students and their children to and from school, doctor and social service appointments, and any other destination as assigned by the E2C2 Director or designee.
  2. Format all E2C2 bus routes with the assistance of transfinder in compliance with Temple ISD transportation department guidelines.
  3. Obey all rules and regulations regarding the operation of a school bus and its equipment.
  4. Clean and fuel bus as needed between bus routes and daily runs.
  5. Report bus maintenance needs to E2C2 and/or TISD Transportation office staff in a timely matter.
  6. Attend required bus driver training, including pre-service and CPR/First Aid.
  7. Attend caregiver training as required by E2C2 Director and/or Texas Department of Family & Protective Services.  
  8. Work in the E2C2 classrooms under the supervision of the full time childcare teachers and staff.
  9. Maintain up to date transportation and child care training log.
  10. Respond to events in a flexible way because no two days or routes are the same (change is constant.)
  11. Perform other job related duties as assigned by E2C2 Director.
  12. Complete required pre-employment clearance, including Criminal History Checks and Fingerprinting.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  There may be alternatives to the below qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.  The applicant must pass the following:

  1. Annual physical (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.)
  2. Criminal History record check including fingerprinting
  3. Prohibitive substance test

 


 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  1. High school graduate or equivalent
  2. One to three years of bus driving experience, preferably in a public education environment.
  3. Experience working with infants and toddlers, preferred.

 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, and REGISTRATIONS:

  1. Commercial Driver’s license (with passenger and school bus endorsements)
  2. Region 12 School Bus drivers certification
  3. Annual First AID/CPR Course and yearly required DOT physical

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Able to read and write correspondence. Able to effectively respond to the EECC Director, Staff, Students, Parents, and to the community.  Strong communication skills, public relations, and interpersonal skills are essential.  Bi-lingual is a plus.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Able to perform basic math.

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.  The employee is required to stand, walk, and to use hands to handle and feel.  The employee needs to be able to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.  The employee must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.  In the role as bus driver, employee will be expected to lift and install car seats and/or children. In the role as caregiver, employee will be expected to lift and carry children and equipment and will spend time sitting on the floor or child sized furniture. Employee will be expected to clean and maintain equipment and facility. May come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff and him/her self.

 

  • Environmental Conditions:  Employee will be working in a busy and occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and will have to ensure children are supervised at all times.

 

  • Sensory Demands: Will experience smells associated with diapering and children who are ill. There may be times that the environment is noisy and busy. Specific vision abilities required include: close vision, peripheral vision, distance vision, and the ability to focus.

 

  • Mental Demands: Able to handle situations and problems with clear understanding of the programs rules, policies, and guidelines. Must ensure that students and children are supervised at all times, and are involved in safe and appropriate activities. There may be a number of situations happening at once, and the employee must be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time.
